Here’s what to watch out for:

🛑 Some companies will say they’re using epoxy grout—but they’re only applying it in the corners or joints. The rest? Standard cement grout. At Allspex, we do things differently. We epoxy the entire shower base, not just the edges. Why? Because water doesn’t just fall in the corners—it hits the whole floor every single day. That’s where the real wear and tear happens, and that’s where the most protection is needed.

🛑 Others use basic cement-based grout, which is more porous, stains easily, and begins to break down far sooner. It’s cheaper, yes—but that’s because it doesn’t last.

🛑 Some “shower sealing” companies might not even remove the old grout before applying a new seal. While some do, many are simply grouting technicians, not licensed tilers. That means they don’t have the training or tools to assess what’s really going on beneath the tiles. When an Epoxy Shower Seal Won’t Work

We pride ourselves on honest advice. That’s why we want to be upfront: an epoxy seal won’t fix every leaking shower.

Here’s when a seal may not be enough:

  • Multiple cracked or loose tiles – often a sign of movement or swelling underneath
  • Water dripping through ceiling below – usually indicates the waterproofing membrane has failed
  • Pooling water away from the drain – may mean the floor slope is incorrect and needs rescreeding
    Hollow-sounding (drummy) tiles – can suggest the tiles have lifted or the glue bed has failed

In these cases, even the best epoxy grout won’t hold up—because the problem is deeper. That’s when we recommend tile removal, proper waterproofing, and retiling. The Allspex Epoxy Shower Seal: What’s Involved?

Here’s what our seal service includes from start to finish:

  1. Shower screen removal – If your screen overlaps the base or sits on a hob, we remove it first to access all grout joints properly. Unlike many providers, we don’t discard your screen — we reinstall it at the end to save you the cost of a new one.
  2. Degrout and inspect – We remove the old grout and silicone, which allows us to inspect the condition of the tile bed underneath. If we find any damage or issues preventing a proper seal, we’ll let you know honestly before continuing.
  3. Clean and prime – We meticulously clean and prime the exposed areas to ensure maximum adhesion and bonding for the epoxy.
  4. Apply FlexiShield™ epoxy grout – We seal the entire shower base and first row of wall tiles, not just the corners. This is where water hits daily — so it’s where protection matters most.
  5. Seal under the shower screen – Before reinstalling your screen, we apply epoxy under its footprint to protect against leaks in one of the most common failure points.
  6. Final waterproof topcoat – A clear, specially formulated sealant is applied for added protection and longevity.
  7. Reinstall the shower screen – Once sealing is complete and cured, we reinstall your screen securely and neatly.
